After having so much fun shooting the snowboarder on the beach last week, I decided to keep the trend of playful, unconventional projects going. This time, it was time to give my surfboard some attention and put it to use in a completely unexpected way.

I had seen jokes online about how when you grow up and stop surfing, your surfboard “retires” and becomes an ironing board. Naturally, ironing boards sort of have that surfboard shape, right? I looked around and could not find any literal visual representations of this idea, so I decided to create one myself.

I mounted my old surfboard onto an ironing board and envisioned the scene in my head. I wanted a gorgeous, chic woman ironing wetsuits on the surfboard-ironing board hybrid, melting wax into the wetsuit just like snowboarders melt wax onto their boards. To make the idea come to life, I created a mood board and pitched it to my good friend Shia Sanders.

We assembled a small dream team. Shia’s sister, Clark Creates, did the makeup. I handled the set design, Shia curated the wardrobe, and of course, Shia absolutely came through as the model. The final images are playful, edgy, and completely unique, exactly the type of creative editorial photography I love to explore in Los Angeles.

This project reminds me why I love mixing commercial and editorial photography with a touch of humor and unexpected concepts. Using analog 35mm film alongside digital techniques keeps my work grounded in a classic aesthetic while also giving me creative freedom to experiment.

If you are looking for a portrait photographer, editorial photographer, or commercial photographer in Los Angeles, I’m always available for creative collaborations. I also book travel projects nationwide and internationally. Whether it’s experimental analog film photography, lifestyle campaigns, or editorial concepts like this one, I’m passionate about bringing bold ideas to life.
