So, as many of you know, I just recently moved to Los Angeles back in January — and I absolutely LOVE it here. As a 35mm photographer and Super 8mm filmmaker now based in West Hollywood, I feel more at home than ever as a full-time freelance creative. The energy, the art, the people — LA just makes sense for me.

Since I’m still settling in and building my network, I’ve been saying yes to all kinds of opportunities. I know it takes time to carve out your niche as a film-based photographer in a city this big, but I’m enjoying every step of the process.

That’s exactly why, when my friend Ari — who works at Ralph Pucci International on McCadden Place (ZIP code 90038) — mentioned they needed an event photographer for an upcoming gallery opening, I jumped at the chance. Even though I don’t typically shoot event photography, I was intrigued. Ralph Pucci is such a respected name in the world of interior design and fine art — it felt like the perfect opportunity to stretch creatively.

This event was extra special because my mom was visiting me in LA for the first time! She’s been such a huge supporter of my career as a 35mm film photographer and analog 16mm / Super 8mm filmmaker. Bringing her along to an exclusive, high-end art event in Los Angeles was such a full-circle moment. She got to see me in action — camera in hand, working the room — and it meant the world to me to have her there.

A few of my friends came along too, including Kass and Andrei, which made the whole night even more fun. The room was full of inspiring creatives, stylish guests, and bold art installations.

My absolute favorite part of the night? Seeing Marjorie Salvaterra’s iconic photography lining the walls. Her work is haunting, powerful, and so distinctly her. I even got to meet her — and she is so sweet in real life! We connected on social media afterward, and when she followed me back, I swear it made my entire night.

I shot the entire event on Portra 400 35mm film, and honestly, there’s something timeless and elegant about capturing a glamorous LA art show on analog. No edits, no filters — just the raw, real magic of film.

Scroll down to see some of my favorite 35mm photos from the event — I hope they give you a taste of the night’s energy, style, and spirit.

If you're looking for a Los Angeles event photographer who shoots exclusively on film, or if you’re planning a shoot and want to collaborate with a 35mm engagement photographer or a Super 8mm wedding filmmaker, I’d love to connect.

Thanks for following along, and cheers from LA!Caseywww.pflipsenfilms.com
